The Ultimate Guessing Game

The ultimate guessing game is very challenging and it goes something like this.....It's 1:30 a.m. and Kate won't sleep, what could be wrong?  (And now the game starts) Is she hungry? Is she dirty? Is she too hot? Too cold? Are her clothes uncomfortable?  Is something pinching her? Is her blanket too tight?  Too loose? Is the light too bright?  Now is the room too dark?  Is the t.v. too loud?  Now is it too quiet? Does she want her pacifier? Does she want to be held? Does she want to lay on her back, side or stomach? Does she want to sit in her bouncy chair? Should we try music?

The answer is......Kate has her days and nights mixed up and is wide awake at 1:30 a.m. There's nothing wrong with her, she just wants to be entertained.   Therefore, mommy and daddy now work the graveyard shift and try to sleep during the day, ugh.  We figured out that she likes to watch her Baby Einstein sea motion crib soother and listen to the music.  She was fascinated by this for a long time.

Any ideas how to get her days/nights back on track?

Try to stimulate her during the day and at night make sure she is fed,dry and comfy then if she is all that, just let her look at her music box in her bed. It is ok for her to be awake in her bed after her diaper change and bottle and burp even if it is the middle of the night as long as she is content. Mom and Dad do not need to look at her 24/7...she is less than 1 foot from Mom in her crib and Mom can lay in the bed and see her.I just need to say that this too will pass and before you know it she will be blogging about why her own baby is up all night. I looked at a lot of different websites for answers to this problem. Most all of them were in agreement with what Cindy said. You will have to help her know the difference between night and day--quiet and dark at night and noises and light during the day. But they also said it doesn't hurt for her to be awake at night. The articles said maybe some music, or a fan or some kind of background noise might help her. (You guys may already have tried all these things.) Kate will sleep when she needs to sleep and you need to get your sleep while she is sleeping so you can get your rest too. I'm feeling your pain and wish there were something I could do.

I think this is great advice you're getting! Hang in there and make sure you are resting!
